I just finished reading the article in the NEBook winter newsletter about
the rising costs of textbooks. As a new bookstore manager of a community
college, I would very much like to get this article into the hands of
all my instructors. I have found that many of the instructors are requiring
these bundled textbook and blackboard or other course information. But
they are complaining about the cost and the fact that very few can be
bought back at buyback due to new editions, the changing of an item, or
even the student not having all the materials to return. I have just had
an instructor whose students went and bought their books from somewhere
else but did not buy the other materials that were in the required bundle
she had ordered, and now she wants me to give these extras to the students
who did not buy their textbook bundle from the bookstore. As much as I
would like to help the students, I cannot just give materials away. The
article "TEXTBOOK MERCHANDISING PRACTICES DRIVE UP PRICES AND OPPOSITION"
needs to be in the hands of all my instructors. I was wondering if I could
copy your article to give to my instructors when I pass out the new adoption
forms in the next few weeks.
Thank you for all your help.
